JEFF FINLIN
Ballad Of A Plain Man
****
Little Dog, £12.99
Finlin is one of the last musical frontiersmen, cooking up heady Americana homebrew at the foot of the Colorado mountains.
'Goodbye Is Just A Freight Train' rides on a woozy, lilting guitar riff into the bumpier, jaunty ride of 'Jesus Was A Motorcycle Man'.
He continues to pick loose threads in the American dream, with 'What's The Big Idea' asking the questions in his most measured set of songs to date, rich in jazzy organ and chunky bass chords. Inexplicably, Finlin is still a hidden treasure. Go dig him up.
