Harsh warning on Irish budget cuts
The Irish government must reduce unemployment benefits, tax residential homes and rip up a deal on public-sector pay if it is to meet the European Union's deficit reduction target, a Reuters survey showed yesterday.
Dublin needs to get the worst budget shortfall in Europe back within an EU-agreed limit of 3 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP) by 2014 and will unveil its plan next month.
