THIS was, to say the very least, a slow-burner of a match which took the longest time to spark into life. Kilmarnock played some nice triangles until they reached the final third, where most of their moves petered out.

Mehdi Taouil and David Fernandez, the two players manager Jim Jefferies expects to supply the bulk of Killie's creativity, began to exert a greater influence on proceedings as the match progressed. However, Kilmarnock's inability to convert their pressure into something tangible came back to haunt them when the visitors took the lead in the 54th minute.

Goalkeeper Chad Harpur, on for Damien Rascle at the interval, bundled Julian Gray to the ground as he burst past him. Referee Eddie Smith pointed to the penalty spot and Elliott Ward converted with relish.

Coventry put the outcome beyond doubt with a second goal nine minutes from time, Gray curling a right-foot shot high past Harpur from 18 yards.
