Published Date: 31 August 2008
MEMBERS of a powerful Holyrood committee are threatening to quit this week if their fellow MSPs refuse to back their call to suspend former Labour leader Wendy Alexander, writes Eddie Barnes.
Earlier this summer, MSPs on the Parliament's Standards Committee – which oversees members' conduct – recommended that Alexander be suspended from Parliament for a day for breaking rules over donations.

The full Parliament will vote on whether to back the committee this Thursday, but senior Labour figures have already begun a phone campaign in an attempt to persuade MSPs not to do so. This has angered MSPs on the committee, who may quit in protest.

Red Wendy should resign her seat and let the electorate decide if she is a criminal.

Mind you, New Labour Sleaze don't do democracy, do they???

If this was the sNP, Labour would be screaming that they have no respect for the authority of the standards commissioner and parliamentary procedure.

Pathetic stuff orchestrated by Baillie to save her own considerablen skin.

If it was wee Eck that had broken the law, the creeps in the New Labour Sleaze and Corruption Party (North British Branch) would be baying for blood. They would be demanding tnat he resign from parliament, and that he be prosecuted.

However, since it is one of their own, they seem to think that it is quite normal and acceptable to break the law. Typical of the west coast Mafia in the Labour Party.

Both the "Martins" are no better, they allowed their Wife and Mother to use Public Money for Taxis to go shopping etc etc.

She is not on the payroll therefore should not be using public money.

Get them both out with Wendy

The disgusting, corrupt Labour party, even when they are not in power, continue to give us examples of why the Scottish Public should annihilate them from the political scene completely - they are like a cancer that must be removed from all sectors in order to clean the country of their poison.

Who ever votes for this party now must be absolutely out of their tiny little minds .... Labour voters must be considered vermin and as socially acceptable as Paul Gadd.

Voldemort seems more than a little over the top. However when all electorate know Wendys guilt, then Labour overturning the committee would only serve to remind the same electorate about their disregard for right and would have more of a negative impact than the 1 day ban quietly being observed.

Since her resignation, Wendy has been politically invisible.

She has, however, remained an MSP and as such will have been paid several thousand pounds in parliamentary salary and dare I say the word expenses.

Does anybody have knowledge of anything she has aaid or done during this period which justifies the outlay of this substantial amount of taxpayers' money?

Is DC MacPlod investigating?
23

Mr. Lachie Todd,

Has the leaderless Labour Party in Scotland got a death wish!

With a forthcoming Westminster by-election at Glenrothes, the last thing Labour needs is more publicity over a controversial ex-leader.

Ms. Alexander is still the MSP for Paisley North at the Scottish Parlaiment and should accept her suspension gracefully.

I agree, this ugly fat mouthed frog should stand down from her seat and call a by-election. The good people of renfrew should not be represented by a criminal.

Wendy and the labour party are on a very slippery slope to oblivion and you only have to read the daily papers to see that.
25

Mike555,

Wendy will not do the honorable thing and resign. She and her brother are both useless t0ssers that don't live in the real world.

Both will be out of a job at the next elections and will have to sit back on their gold plated pensions that you and me continue to pay for.

Liebour trying to get the wrongdoer off. That's going to go down well with the voting public.
It's a shame these people were not as concerned about Scottish soldiers losing their lives in Iraq, pensioners losing out with Brown's meddling, and compensating workers that suffer the effects of asbestos.
How low can liebour go ? Bad people, only out for themselves.

If the members of the Parliament's Standards Committee are of any mettle at all they will ignore attempts to interfere in the Alexnder proceedings and make public what type of call is being made to subvert the course of parliamentary justice. The sooner this committee stamps its authority on this rabble the better. What's the point of resigning? Get to it!

Labour have sunk so low.

Wendy was wrong. We all know that. Her punishment of one days suspension is very minor and is more symbolic. She should accept her punishment as should labour and move on.

The real issue is not even the thing she was punished for the but the cover up of the illegal donation and the fact that so many facts only made their way to the public domain due to leaks within her own team.

Politics must be cleaned up. Labour who promised to clean up politics have ultimately lied about it and been far worse than any party i can remember.

It would seem that most, or many New Labour politicians are 'apprentices' of the Michael Martin school of 'Getting away with it' and very well trained at it!!

It would be interesting to hear - if they dare speak, what the constituents of these MPs / MSPs / Councillors think of their unseemly behaviour, and why they continue to vote them 'In' and not o'Out!'

It does seem that, 'North and South', these wayward Politicos are fully supported in each area in their apparently financial underhand methods - by the seemingly 'blind to it all' Political Standards Committees, which also seem to have a doubtful - if any, Modus Operandi of any worthwhile meaningful purpose!!

I very much doubt if the financial greed that exists will ever diminish (or be Honest!)under the present 'collusive' arrangement that seems to operate under the present regime!

Politics of today appears to be the biggest finacial 'Con game' - with Taxpayers funds, the Country has ever known, and ever will!
35

Vote UKIP,

31/08/2008 19:54:02
Nu Labour make me sick. I can't even stomach watching or listening to them anymore. All of the main parties are rotten.

The Tories are a complete joke and the SNP are a bunch of nationalist dreamers who can't accept that the EU produces 75% of our laws. Being 'independent' within the EU is nonsense.

People should back the real alternative. UKIP is the party of liberty and independence from the EU.

36 Where EU legislation exists of course we would remain as we are at present presumably.Whether we are in the UK or not,we are in the EU.
I'm intrigued by the notion that 75% of the Laws are from the EU.
Obviously this is your estimate and obviously a figure plucked out of thin air.

You do know that Scotlands legal system is entirely seperate to that of the rest of the UK?

I very much doubt it!

However the point is we would have exactly the same laws were we independent as we have now ,since our Scots Law system ALWAYS HAS BEEN seperate and still covers much of what we are about. In any case Scotland would remain in the EU only as long as her people wished it to be so. Continued membership is our intention ,but history is a book which will never be written since there is always a new chapter.

I think you are deluded beyond measure if you think anybody in Scotland gives a monkeys about UKIP!
We could not be less interested if someone paid us!

Glenrothes should explain this better than I can.

Labour have got a brass neck objecting to Wendy being barred for one day.

The woman should probably be detained at her majesties pleasure, according to most people I have heard express an opinion.

She may be innocent in the eyes of the Labour Party. She is guilty by her own admission in the court of public opinion ,and they will ultimately be heard.
Labour have got away with nothing.

Glenrothes will follow Glasgow East and show what we do to highland dancers.

No...................but you could apply that to the entire Labour benches Gus!

Why?

Major error of judgement. This is just dragging matters out and in danger of reopening old wounds.

Take the 1 day hit and move on, clean cut, less painful in the long run and easier to heal.
