11,000 smoke alarms fitted

FIREFIGHTERS have installed nearly 11,000 smoke alarms in homes in East Lothian over the last four years.

Between 2005 and 2009, personnel from Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service have also delivered 22,401 safety packs with information on fire prevention and safety in the county.

Meanwhile, 8,069 home safety visits were carried out by firefighters in the area.

The figures were revealed in the latest fire service report to members of the East Lothian Community Safety Partnership.
