City's first halal Chinese eatery opens

The Capital is to get its first halal Chinese restaurant next month.

Dragon Way in South Clerk Street, Newington, received halal certification in September and is due to open as fully halal in November.

Owner Michael Yip said: "It was during the summer, at a charity event to raise money for the Pakistan disaster, I was asked if I could make the organisers a halal Chinese meal.

"Edinburgh is famous for its restaurants, however, halal diners are very restricted in terms of where they can eat out."

He said he hoped the move would also improve the quality of the meat served in the restaurant as it would arrive fresh and had no added water.

Mr Yip recently opened a noodle bar, WaWa on West Causewayside, which is also halal. WaWa offers customers the chance to use one of six iPads in the shop while eating their takeaway noodles.
