A post-mortem examination is due to take place later today, however police are treating the death as murder.

Detective Inspector Allan Burton of London Road police office said: “This was an extremely brutal and violent attack on this man. Officers are carrying out extensive enquiries in the area to gather more information on those responsible.

“The inquiry team are currently continuing to carry out door-to-door enquiries and view CCTV footage in an effort to establish the exact circumstances surrounding this death.

“When the murder happened yesterday afternoon, I have no doubt that Dalmarnock Road would have been busy with both motorists and pedestrians, and I would urge any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police to come forward.

“In particular I would like to speak to anyone who may have been making their way to or from the nearby Dominion public house or the William Hill bookmakers, as they may have witnessed something vital to this inquiry.”
