Heritage body names new trustees

HERITAGE charity The National Trust for Scotland has announced ten new trustees after a ballot of its 310,000 members.

More than 40,000 people voted for the ten, who will be co-opted in due course to join the board and will provide additional, specialist skills.

The new board of trustees will meet for the first time on a formal basis in March.

Commenting on the ballot outcome, the trust's chairman, Sir Kenneth Calman, said: "It is hugely encouraging in this, the charity's 80th year, to see such a large proportion of our wide and diverse membership becoming directly involved in shaping the trust's future.

"It is both reassuring and exciting that our members have made such wise choices in the trustees they have elected.

"The balance of skills and wisdom represented by these ten people is enhanced by their genuine passion for Scotland's natural and cultural heritage."
