Off-road race victim was winter hero

THE 23-year-old man who died in a 4x4 crash during an off-road race had used his vehicle to help deliver medical supplies during December's deep snow, it has been revealed.

Andrew Guinan, originally from Livingston, West Lothian, died on Sunday at an event organised by the Tay 4x4 Club at Hillfoot Farm, Kinrossie, near Perth.

Friends revealed yesterday that the garage worker was one of three volunteers who drove through snow to take dialysis equipment to Arbroath Infirmary in December.

The other two were mother-of-three Mary Don and her son Bobby, 21, with whom Mr Guinan lodged in Montrose. Ms Don said: "He was like another son to me."

Mr Guinan was declared dead at the scene of Sunday's crash after his vehicle plunged 200 ft downhill during an event held to train for this month's Whitbread Charity Challenge in aid of the Welsh air ambulance service.
