Human element

I was appalled to read about robots being used to help dementia patients “live more independently” (your report, 6 July).

To me, this just sounds like one more excuse to neglect the people who most need our help.

And it’s all very well younger people using robots to make their lives easier or more fun, but this kind of thing is much more difficult for older people, particularly if they are struggling with the often terrifying changes that dementia bring about, to understand.

I suspect they will merely end up feeling more abandoned and frightened than ever.
