Right, but too late

The decision to pull British troops out of Sangin in Afghanistan (your report, 8 July) was correct but overdue by 99 deaths in what is now recognised as a very hostile Taleban area requiring a much more substantial military force to have any chance of success.

This will clearly be seen by the Taleban as victory over the enemy and will give further power and influence to the terrorists in what is becoming an untenable situation that simply cannot be won by force alone.
