Vehicle theft keeps falling
CAR theft in the Capital has continued to fall dramatically as new technology such as immobilisers makes stealing vehicles more difficult for thieves.
A total of 904 vehicle thefts were reported in Edinburgh between April and December last year, compared with the three-year average for the same nine-month period, of 1560.
The fall of 42 per cent was almost matched by a drop of 37 per cent for the whole of Lothian and Borders, from the three-year average of 2083 to 1315 between April and December.
Car crime has dropped as advances in security make life harder for opportunist thieves.
