Cricket: Shahzad the star for Holy Cross III

Holy Cross III youngster Usama Shahzad stole the show on Saturday in a rain affected East League programme.

He took four wickets as his side defeated SMRH III - and the rain - to notch up their fifth win of the campaign in Division Eight.

Bowling first at Inverleith Shahzad was the star man with 4-22 while Keith Geddes also performed well to take three wickets. In the end the hosts were bowled out for just 61, but there were still doubts if the match could finish with the rain falling.

Nevertheless the Holy Cross III batsmen got out there and knocked off the runs they needed to win with minimal fuss.

Colin McGill was the mainstay as they won by seven wickets, hitting 22 not out. Both sides remain in mid-table.

Meanwhile, Tom Murdoch hit a hard fought 55 not out as Largo II saw off Penicuik III with ease in Division Six.

Batting first the men from Midlothian made 129 all out, Bob Mowat snapping up 4-29 for the hosts in Fife. Murdoch then saw his side home by nine wickets. All other games in all eight divisions were rained off on Saturday
