Old Firm ‘sabotaged Scotland v England’

Former Scotland manager Craig Brown says that a scheduling conflict between Scotland’s 1999 clash with England and the Old Firm meant that Paul Scholes was allowed too much room in a match that saw him score twice for England.

Brown says Paul Lambert, who had been injured in the Old Firm game a few days earlier, would have stopped Scholes and kept him under control, while some of the Scotland squad were still fatigued.

Robson out

Aberdeen will lose Barry Robson for at least a few weeks after picking up a knee injury.
