Hearts: Your Say

Carol Newman, Liberton: "It was always going to be a very tough game for us with Rangers going for the league but we made things really difficult by not playing the way that we know that we are capable of.

"I felt that we gave the ball away a lot in the midfield with slack passes and, too often, we chose the wrong pass when we got the ball into a dangerous area. Despite us not being anywhere near our best, I felt that we were doing ok defensively and the Rangers fans were starting to get a bit restless at half-time. "The longer it stayed 0-0, the more chance we had of hitting them on the break as they pushed for a winner but, unfortunately, we conceded early in the second half and we couldn't get back into it. The loss of the second goal didn't make much difference because I don't think we'd have equalised anyway but the sending off of Eggert Jonsson could prove to be an expensive one with big games ahead.

"The game against Motherwell could be make or break in the race for a Europa League place."

David Payne, Meadowbank: "That was such an anti-climax from Hearts. We never really made much of a game of it and I was disappointed that we put in such a tame display having had a wee bit of fire back in the team since JJ came back.

"For me, the team lacked the belief that we were capable of going to Ibrox and picking up a win. The ironic thing is that we actually defended better than we did against Rangers a few weeks ago but there was a lack of cutting edge.

"To be honest, Suso was completely wasted playing off Obua through the middle and, too often, we knocked it long looking for Obua to win the header. Palazuelos and Craig Thomson are not natural wingers and they weren't able to test the full-backs in the way that Suso did at Tynecastle. Hopefully, we can produce a better display against Motherwell – that game and the game at Easter Road look to be massive now."

Graham Chisholm, Meadowbank: "We just weren't up for it. I had hoped that we'd go there with an attacking line up and have a real go at Rangers but that never materialised.

"We went into this game looking to keep it tight and contain Rangers and I had expected us to be a bit more adventurous than that. Having said that, what didn't help our chances was that a few of our key players didn't perform.

"Suso and Obua never got into it up front while Eggert Jonsson had his poorest game in a long time against Lafferty. In fact, Eggert might well have been at fault for the first goal since it was a free header for Lafferty and he didn't exactly cover himself in glory for the second goal either. Individually and collectively, we just didn't do well enough. Rangers were the far better side over the course of the 90 minutes and we certainly cannot have any complaints about the result."
