Golf: Forrest gets his latest title tilt underway in British Boys' championship

Lothians youngster Grant Forrest was beginning his bid for the British Boys' championship at Barassie and Dundonald today.

The Craigielaw golfer, who won the Scottish under-18 matchplay crown earlier this season, was one of 252 players teeing up in the qualifying stage of an event that boasts a list of winners that includes Jose Maria Olazabal, Sergio Garcia and Rhys Davies.

Simon Fairburn, the Lothians Boys' champ, was also in action today while Kilmarnock's Jack McDonald, a member of the Barassie club, was hoping to make home advantage count against a quality international field.

"Barassie is a course where it's important to have local knowledge," said the former Scottish Boys' Strokeplay champion. "I've played Dundonald a lot too so that will be a big advantage this week."

Blairgowrie's Bradley Neil, winner of both the Scottish and English under-14 titles earlier this month, was also competing.
