Kyles forced to sit it out as Newtonmore cash in

SHINTY: The dramatic title race took another twist at the weekend when challengers Newtonmore drew level with Kyles and slashed the goal difference. Kyles travelled north to Mossfield Park in Oban, giving up home advantage, in a bid to regain title momentum lost through postponements. However, that backfired as the pitch was deemed unplayable, with both Kyles and Kingussie already en route.

With Kyles once again idle, Camanachd Cup winners Newtonmore thrashed Oban 5-0 to draw level on points. Four goals from Glen MacKintosh and a Danny McRae strike means it’s square at the top, with Kyles having six more goals and one game more to play.

But it is looking likely the title will be decided on the last day in Tighnabruaich next month. “The aim is to force the issue to the final day,” said Newtonmore boss, Norman MacArthur. “If we can bring the goal difference back to one or two, then it is all back in the melting pot. It is far from over.”
