Swimming: Relaxed Miley gears up for tough 400m

The 21-year-old finished seventh in the 200m, one place down on her efforts at the 2009 Rome World Championships, on the second day of action at Shanghai's futuristic Oriental Sports Center. Entering the final as the fifth-fastest qualifier from the semi-finals the previous night, Miley touched home in 2min 11.36sec for seventh in a hotly-contested and dramatic medal showdown. Trailing in fifth at the turn for the final 50m, China's Shiwen Ye produced a storming last leg to delight the home crowd with gold and deny Australian Alicia Coutts by one tenth of a second. Miley herself will be expected to fulfil the expectation of a nation when the 400m medley gets under way on Sunday and she has vowed to now get serious in a bid to not disappoint. "I was going into this race quite relaxed, my main event is the 400m, and that is where things become a lot more serious," said Miley. "But it was good to get out there and swim." Britain's medal tally remains at one in Shanghai - with no-one able to add to double Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington's 400m freestyle silver from the opening day on Monday. And there will only be two British representatives, Liam Tancock and Lizzie Simmonds, in final action today with Scot Robbie Renwick one of many to fall at the semi-final hurdle on day two. Renwick failed to reach the 400m freestyle final on Sunday with history repeating itself in the 200m equivalent 24 hours later - an event laden with Olympic and world champions such as Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte and Paul Biedermann. The 23-year-old, the Commonwealth champion over 200m, finished 12th overall with his time of 1:47.89 exactly half a second away shy of the final.
