West of Scotland 28 - 19 Watsonians:

West of Scotland took a big step towards the quarter-finals of the Premier Cup with a deserved bonus-point win over their main rivals in Pool I.

West had the gale behind them in a first half that produced all four of their tries.

The first arrived in 11 minutes. Following a well-placed penalty from Conor Davis, the pack drove the lineout around 15 metres and then prop Elliott McLaren forced his way over.

Two minutes later as Watsonians attempted to move the ball down the line, the alert West centre Richard Dalgleish pounced to intercept and run in from 40 metres.

In 33 minutes, just as Watsonians seemed to be in the process of re-asserting themselves, home prop Steve Longwell put in a great drive that ended with a penalty.

Sim put the ball into the visitors' 22 from where another good drive by the pack let Dave Young touch down.

To close the half, livewire scrum half Mark Davis shot over. Older brother Conor kicked his fourth conversion, with three - remarkably, given the conditions - being from the touch-line.

Sonians seemed on the way back two minutes after the restart when Andrew Skeen was first to Mike Ker's wind-assisted chip ahead. Ker converted.

However, West then played most of the second half pretty much around the Edinburgh side's 22, with the visitors' unable to secure any real possession.

On two occasions when Sonians did get up-field, in 67 and 72 minutes, hard working prop Danny Moussa grabbed tries.

However, when Ker was unable to convert the second from out wide, it confirmed it was West's day.
