Hollywood star Saoirse Ronan heads for Orkney for adaptation of recovery memoir The Outrun

Hollywood star Saoirse Ronan is heading to Orkney for a big-screen adaptation of a best-selling memoir about a young woman who returns home to the islands from London to try to recover from alcohol addiction.

Ronan, a four-times Oscar nominee for Atonement, Brooklyn, Lady Bird and Little Women, will be shooting The Outrun this summer.

Orkney-born Amy Liptrot, whose book recalls her homecoming when she was 30, is working with German director and screenwriter Nora Fingscheidt on the film adaptation.
